CPE 2009 Nationals — Jake did very well with 6 Q's out of 9 runs and 2 - 4th places (Standard and Wildcard on the first day). The Jackpot was extremely difficult with only a handful of dogs completing it. Of course Jackpot was one of the Q's we missed along with the last Standard run (he had an off course) and Snooker. My fault in Snooker as he back jumped. All in all I think he did very well for his first National competition! :)
BoGee 4/25-26 Jake completed CPE Level 3 and we are working on Level 4. We had one Standard L-3 run left on Sunday 4/26 to complete his L-4 title. He did everything perfectly-even the poles. So at 9.5 years old he is a CPE L-4 and qualified for CPE Nationals.
We did complete L-2 & 3 in just over 1 year (3/08-4/09), as we started competing in CPE in March 2008. He did complete L-3 with the last Standard run on Sunday 4/26.
Rhys also did well and had a first with Q in Colors. He now has 3 Q's for L-1. He tries really hard!

Phanzone, USDAA, June — Q'd 8 out of 9! And, won in his class at Snooker!
Wrentham, April 25th — Tasker earned both his Novice B JWW and Novice B Standard titles.
He has also earned two Open JWW legs the past two weekends in Wrentham as well.

Ash had his first CPE Agility Trial on April 25/26.
He Q'd in 4 of his 8 runs. He earned 1st in Colors, 1st in Full house, 3rd in Standard, and 4th in Wildcard, even though he didn't Q. I am so proud of Ash. He surpassed all of my expectations. I was so worried that he would run out of the ring, and he never did. I want to thank Jen Johnson for all of her help over
the weekend and making my first trial a ton of fun (and a lot less stressful than I thought it was going to be).
I also wanted to thank the FNT family for cheering Ash and I on.

Karen! Unbelievable news — Tessie went PERFECT this weekend, 10 runs, 10 Q's, 10 firsts, finished Level 1, got a Perfect Weekend ribbon and was HIGH IN TRIAL!!! Check out the attached photo. Midway through Sunday I realized she was on her way to a perfect weekend. She finished her Level 1 title in a traditional Jackpot! I never thought she'd get the distance but she's a thoughtful little thing and she put it all together. She had to do tunnel>jump>tire>table. The tire and table were maybe 5 feet from the line. Her contacts are suburb. I actually did a front cross on the downside of the A-frame because I said "hit it" and she did and "wait" and she did that too! I just wanted to stand there and admire it a while. Her start line stays? A complete dream. You know those people who can put there dog in the start line stay while the ring crew is setting bars? And stand five feet away from the dog? Yeah, that's what we were able to do. With every run her confidence increased a little more.
So it's the last run of the day on Sunday... to that point she'd had nine runs, Q'd and took first in every single one. (There were only a couple of Level 1 16" regular dogs and sometimes she was the only one, but I didn't tell her that.)
All of a sudden it hit me and I got really nervous. I felt like a pitcher who has a perfect game going entering the 9th inning. I thought, "I hope she doesn't poop, or I don't forget the course, or that any of the 5,000 things that Sailor and I have experienced happen right now." Anyway, I put her in the start line stay, she sits as usual and all of a sudden breaks and runs around me! I panic _ she's never done that before. She hadn't gone over the first jump so the time didn't start. I turned and saw that a bird had flown down and landed in the ring maybe 15 feet away and she was running toward it. I started calling her back in the high-pitched tone of voice not heard since the early days of "Sailor! Sailor! Here! For the love of God Sailor!" She came right back and as she was the judge said, "Handler, please reset your dog." So she was letting me take my time to get her set up again! I thought that was really nice, but I was so discombobulated by that point that the run wasn't pretty at all... I was so nervous! But you know what? She did it! After it was official I went in to get my ribbon and my God it's gorgeous. I'm just so proud of my little one. After they gave it to me the trial secretary said, "Hang on a minute _ Miss Tessie has another ribbon!" Then they handed me this three-foot-long extravaganza of ribbon for High In Trial! I almost cried.
So I am attacting a photo of my girl on her once-in-a-lifetime weekend.
Multiple people asked where I got her and admired her start line stays and contacts. I told them how you coached us through the fundamentals from the very beginning and that we've really worked them consistently. What amazed me was how much more confident she got as the days went on. By Sunday she actually started looking ahead to the next obstacle. I felt like she wasn't staring at me looking worried like she did at Bo-Gee. She is remarkably calm.
I have not forgotten my Yellow Fellow. Mr. Sailor went 5 for 10 so we're down to 7 for the C-ATCH. Considering how tight the turns were and how many opportunities there were for off courses I was pleased we did as well as that. So that's our weekend in a nutshell. I am so proud of that little puppy. (Sailor was underwhelmed and said, "yeah, but let's see if she can do that when she gets to Level 5.")

Strider went to his first agility trial, a CPE trial in Deerfield, NH. He earned two Q's and three firsts (he missed a Q in his first run due to being a little excited) in level 1. He was a very good boy!
Wednesday went to the same CPE trial. This was not only her first agility trial it was her first dog show ever! She did great earning three Q's in three classes. She also placed first in standard and third in colors and jumpers. She was amazing!
Thank you Karen for all of your training! Also thanks to all of the FNT gang that were there to cheer and support!

Spooner, at age 10, with her pieced together hind leg, did her first agility competition ever.
Running in Colors at Bo-Gee on April 26, 2009, she managed to do everything I asked her to do, with the exception of crossing the finish line!
Her picture was taken by one of Jennifer's students, John Woolley — thank you, John!

Nubis attended her first CPE Trial April 26, 2009, in Deerfield, NH. Not only was it her first CPE Trial, it was her first trial ever! She competed in three runs in Level 1: Colors, Jackpot, and Standard. She received 2 Q's in Colors and Standard and placed FOURTH in both as well. She would have Q'd in Jackpot, if not for a "human" mistake. She was awesome and blew me away. Not too shabby for the "Pokey Little Puppy" who is afraid of crowds and noise.
Thanks to Jen for all your patience and training and to all from FNT who cheered us on that day.

CPE 2009 Nationals — High in Standard for Level 3, Specialist and 2nd place in Games, Specialist.
Krypto, ranked 5th for 2008 in CPE's Top Ten Specialists, and has graduated to Level C.
Krypto likes Jackpot and sometimes high drama. Last weekend the traditional gamble was tunnel-jump-tire-table. The challenge was that the tunnel entrance was on the far side of the temptingly fun A-frame, which stood inside the gamble box but was not part of the gamble.
During the judge's briefing, we learned that a dog could take without penalty (or points) any non-gamble obstacle (like that A-frame) as long as the dog had not yet taken any gamble obstacles.
When the gamble whistle blew, Krypto was ideally situated on a clear line for the gamble tunnel beyond the A-frame.
Silly overconfident me, happy daredevil Krypto, who doesn't care for the A-frame, flew up the A-frame (surely because my body language told her to). I brought her around to start the gamble, and thought we'd miss the gamble time but we should try.
On the second attempt to begin the gamble, Krypto did dart into the tunnel. As she emerged I flicked my hand to indicate the rest of the sequence, and she jetted so fast that I only noticed her paws dance on the table as she deplaned into the exit area. The judge had called the Jackpot scoring so we had succeeded in the gamble.
Her time? Sweet, dainty princess Krypto had completed the gamble (beginning with a superfluous A-frame added for fun) with 0.9 seconds to spare!
This weekend the Jackpot gamble was to avoid a nearby tunnel and go out to the teeter beyond, which Krypto happily did, this time free of drama. Thank you, princess!!

Charlie has finally done it. He has his AKC NAJ title and has another leg towards his NF and NS titles after earning three blue ribbons and a red for his four Qualifying runs in Topsfield on September 7th and 8th. I didn't have to say "Charles" even once.
