Puppy Kindergarten New sessions start Thursday, March 4th (6PM) and Tuesday, March 16th (7PM) at 108 Newburyport Turnpike  Fit-N-Trim’s Third Annual Agility Camp! Fit-N-Trim will offer its annual Agility Camp on June 10th and 11th in advance of the busy summer trial season and before the real heat of summer sets in. The curriculum is designed for advanced and intermediate students who want to refine their handling skills and strategies. As in the past, Fit-N-Trim will be bringing in well-known guest instructors…including Cindy Ratner, who has been with us the past two years…to help give handlers a fresh perspective on their training approach and skills and their dog’s response to it. As always, Camp is about having fun with your dog and sharing time with other agility enthusiasts while refining the skills you need. Look for more information in the Spring Newsletter, later this month. Distance Clinic with Jean McKenzie – April 11th Fit-N-Trim is excited to be able to offer a Distance Clinic with Jean McKenzie. Jean has been training dogs for more than 30 years and has been involved in agility since its inception. She is a CPE, AKC and USDAA judge. Jean has continued her education at seminars in the US, England, and Canada. She has given seminars and taught a wide variety of classes for 25 years. Most recently, Jean has been the Director of Dog Sports at “All Dogs Gym” in Manchester NH. The clinic is best for experienced intermediate and advanced handler/dog teams who need to start working on distance. Dog should be comfortable with full-height equipment. This course is not for competitors at the advanced/masters level. Let Karen know right away if you are interested as working spots will be limited.            AKC Canine Good Citizen Test The Canine Good Citizen Test will be offered on Tuesday,  April 27th from 6-8PM. Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. This introductory workshop focuses on teaching you how to encourage and develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using its desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It’s a great class for your dog to have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy and a wonderful opportunity for you to find out just how good your dog’s nose is. Games are scheduled for Saturday, March 27th and Sundays, March 21st and April 18th at 10:30 AM. We will offer a variety of CPE, USDAA, and AKC games. If you have never tried games before, ask your instructor whether you and your dog are ready.Come 15 minutes early if you are new to games and would like an overview of the rules or the walk the course with an experience handler. Games are held at our indoor agility ring at 103 Haverhill Street (Rte 133), Rowley. Look for the yellow agility sign.  Check back often for new dates and times. Fit-N-Trim students:  $15.00 (1 dog); $10 each dog for more than one dog; guests: $20.00 (1 dog). Private Lessons Fit-N-Trim offers private lessons by appointment. Agility session with Karen are $35 a half hour lesson and $55 an hour. We also offer Obedience/Behavior training for $65 per hour and Breed Handling for $55 an hour. Private lessons offer an opportunity to work on specific skills with your dog. Are you or is your dog intimidated by large dogs? Is it too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer to exercise your dog properly? Then Mighty Minis Romps are for you! Mighty Minis Romps is just for dogs 25 pounds or less. PUPPY romps are for pups 8 weeks to 5months old, all breeds. Novice Handling Class (4 week session) New sessions start Tuesday, March 30th at 10AM and Monday, April 5th at 5PM Novice Handling is a four-week course that teaches the basic skills you need to show your dog successfully. The class covers ring procedures, gaiting patterns, recommended leads and collars, stacking, and baiting. To ensure that each handler/dog team gets individual attention, the class is limited to six teams. Cost: $100. Email kunabug@comcast.net if interested. Canine Massage  by April Capen, CMT, ESMT Fit-N-Trim is happy to offer canine massage by April. Once a month, April will be at Fit-N-Trim's Rte.1 location. Sport Massage is important to maintaining the entire dog's body in better physical condition and aids in preventing injuries and loss of mobility. It also helps boost circulation and, as a result, promotes more rapid healing of injuries. Keeping your dog in good physical condition can also help boost athletic performance.
